Title: Work Reentry After Extended Breaks: The Challenges of Work Transitions

Speaker: Andrew Yu, University of Melbourne, Australia

Time: 9:00 AM, September 15, 2025

Venue: Room 216, School of Economics and Management

Host: Department of Business Administration, School of Economics and Management, Wuhan University

Abstract:

Transitions from leisure to work, such as returning after vacation, can create challenges for employees. This research examines how cognitive continuity—the carryover of leisure-related thoughts into work—affects attention and productivity. Findings highlight why employees may struggle to concentrate after recovery periods and suggest implications for organizations in supporting smoother work re-entry.
