AMBA’s Pre-accreditation of WHU’s MBA/EMBA Programs Goes Smoothly

In 2010, the MBA/EMBA programs of the Economics and Management School (EMS), Wuhan University (WHU) passed the three-year accreditation of the Association of MBAs (AMBA), the international impartial authority on postgraduate business education, and this year those accredited programs will be reviewed. On October 21, in accordance with the AMBA’s accreditation procedures, the association sent Professor Zhong Ming Wang, its International Advisor China, to visit our school and make pre-accreditation on our relevant work. Professor Wang proposed his opinions and suggestions on the self-audit report and the preparation for the pre-accreditation made by our school.

At 8:30 a.m., the working conference for the AMBA’s pre-accreditation was held in Conference Room A113 in the school. Wen Guanhua, the head of the Professional Degrees Department of the WHU, Xie Danyang, Dean of the EMS, Xu Yeqin, the secretary of the Party Committee, Zhu Jianping, the deputy secretary, Vice Deans of the EMS including Li Yanping, Zeng Guo’an, Wang Tao, Pan Min and Li Jilong, as well as personnel from the Office of International Accreditation and Quality Assurance and the MBA and EMBA Education Centers attended this conference.

Mr. Wen Guanhua made a speech first. He extended the warm welcome to Professor Wang Chongming on behalf of the university and the Graduate School. He said that the university and the Graduate School paid much attention to the AMBA accreditation, hoping to strengthen the strategies for the MBA/EMBA brand building and advance the internationalization of MBA/EMBA programs.

Xie Danyang, the Dean of the EMS, made a general introduction of the school to the delegation for the pre-accreditation in respects of the overall situation, the mission, the strategies, the vision, the teaching, the scientific research and the student management. Then Liu Xueyuan, the person in charge of the AMBA accredited programs, made a self-audit report from aspects covering the introduction to the EMS, the applicants, the faculty quality, program management and student engagement, student, purpose and outcomes, curriculum, mode and duration.

Next Professor Wang Zhongming showed his approval of the accreditation report made by the EMS, and also analyzed and sorted out the issues existing in the report. He discussed those issues in details with teachers present, stressing that the core concept of AMBA was “from good to excellent”. In this regard, he put forward some constructive suggestion relevant to the university and the school’s development strategies, modules, and internationalization.

After the report and discussion, Professor Wang continued to talk with the teachers’ representatives and MBA/EMBA students to gain more information about the EMS.

The pre-accreditation manifested that the EMS had stridden an important step in winning the AMBA accreditation and made significant progress in the review. It has shown the direction and laid foundation for the future work, which will lead to the success of the EMS in the AMBA re-accreditation.
