In December 4, 2013, the award ceremony was held in Beijing for National Energy Administration’s Award for Excellent Achievements in Soft Science Research 2012. The study “Research of Some Key Problems in China’s Hydropower Development”, with Wuhan University as the principle research institute, and Fang Debin, associate professor of Economics and Management School as the principle person who completed the project, was awarded with third prize.
This study is mainly concerned with investigating and providing advices for policies in hydropower development, including the electricity price of in-grid hydropower (including the compensation system for auxiliary services, and tax policies), the long-term compensation and resettlement of hydropower immigrants, environment protection in hydropower development, and the allocation of compensation profits among cascade power plants. Its results have seen application by institutions such as China Energy Research Society, Sinohydro Group, and Hubei Energy Group, producing significant economic and social benefits. This study has enriched China’s hydropower development policies, contributed to the development of energy economy and hydropower management in China, and provided important support to the management decisions in the hydropower industry.
