Date:2013-11-24

On November 21, 2013, Professors Zhou Nan and Su Chenting from City University of Hong Kong (CityU) came to our school and gave lectures. Their profound academic knowledge and accumulation made the lectures a big success.

Professor Zhou Nan works at the Department of Marketing of CityU, and serves as the Changjiang Scholar Chair Professor at Wuhan University. Professor Zhou started in his unique humorous style the lecture “Making Writing and Publishing Papers a Piece of Cake”. He explained different levels of academic research from the angles of Chinese culture and speculative philosophy, and led students to think about how to conduct theoretical research based on the study of phenomena, as well as how to become an author whose papers could be published easily regardless of what he wrote. With examples and questions, he interacted with the students and teachers present, letting them sensing the Chinese culture in laughter, and more important, learning how to link the Chinese culture with western research paradigms.

Professor Su Chenting serves as the Head of the Department of Marketing of CityU and the Luojia Scholar Chair Professor at Wuhan University. His lecture was “How Can I Trust You? Trust Ambivalence and Governance Complexity in Interorganizational Relationships”. Although trust was a cut-and-dried issue studied extensively in the academic sphere, Professor Su started from the fundamental concepts, discovered issues contributing to theory, and created near-perfect research approach with rigorous logic deduction. He also shared with our students and teachers his research experience including how to determine a research topic, how to form the research approach and how to conduct theoretical deduction. Those students and teachers present have gained a lot of benefits from his advice.
