Interview with the volunteer fighting the epidemic——Qiao Keqing:Her volunteer activities are glowing in the haze of the virus
Date:2020-09-16

The Spring Festival in 2020 is destined to be extraordinary. The New Year, which should be filled with family reunion and shared family relationships, has been shrouded in the haze of "epidemic". Our city is sick, there is no more traffic, no bustling streets, no more coveted New Year gatherings. All residents started the "home-stay" model. While we are depressed by the "boring life", we are more worried about the development of the "epidemic".

There is this girl, since the outbreak of the "epidemic", who has become a member of thousands of "anti-epidemic fighters". She is Qiao Keqing, a 2018 entry graduate from department of financial engineering

The volunteer fighting the epidemic——Qiao Keqing

During her studies, she joined the Youth Volunteer Association and participated in voluntary services; at the same time, she joined the Wuhan University Graduate Party Building Research Association, Wuhan University Graduate School of Economics and Management and other student organizations to serve the growth of students.

"My original intention was to help my mother only "

Q: Why did you choose to be an"anti-epidemic volunteer"?

Everyone panicked when the "epidemic" came. She said her original intention was very simple - to protect her mother who was a nurse. Qiao's mother participated in the fight against SARS in 2003. When the new coronavirus pneumonia broke out, her mother took the initiative to return to work. But her mother’s hospital got very cautious since she was from Wuhan, so they kept her mother on standby. For this reason, her mother was made to rest at home and have been very uncomfortable and guilty.

All this was noted by Qiao Keqing. She said: “After the outbreak, the hospital was badly short of supplies, especially for front-line medical staff. The medical masks werein frequently urgent demand. This made me so uncomfortable. If one day, my mother really wants to fight pneumonia, I must protect her. ."

Therefore, Qiao started contacting supplies for her mother's hospital. But soon she realized that a person's power was too little and her movements were too slow, especially when she saw the medical staff fighting day and night on the frontline, she realized that this must be fast. Then she came up with the idea to build a team.

"At this time I can't just think of my mother alone. Everyone is working hard, I must do better, continue to expand my scope of responsibilities, and continuously improve my work ability. Everyone must get better together. , We are a community with a shared future."

“With a bit of heat and a bit of light, we don’t need to wait for the torch"

Therefore, from January 23, Qiao Keqing devoted herself to busy volunteer work. Replying to messages, making calls, taking notes, time after time, day after day.

She said: "Our strength isn’t supereme, it seems slow, but we have been walking, and we are walking forward."

Taking herself as the flagpole of the team, “the flagpole cannot fall.” Although she will encounter obstacles in communication, connections, etc., she knows that only by doing a good job with heart and concentration can the donor and the hospital save time and energy. She thinks she is lucky to be a "anti-epidemic volunteer"; as Mr. Lu Xun said: If there is a bit of heat and a bit of light, it will be like a firefly, and it can also emit a little light in the dark without waiting for the torch.

The epidemic continues to spread. Volunteers like Qiao Keqing are like small gears in two big gears, connecting the front line with the rear. "Everyone makes their own efforts"

Q: How many volunteer partners do you have?

She is proud to mention that the team already has 18 members: some are studying abroad, some are retreating to China; there are family members of medical staff, and there are mothers with babies. Everyone gathered together for the same reason, hoping to shine.

Along the way, there are more and more like-minded friends, more and more caring companies and manufacturers, and the list of matching hospitals is getting longer and longer. Everyone thought she was great, but she always thought that she was just doing her part.

Q:The most moving moment in your volunteer activity?

During the interview, she expressed her admiration for the team's friends, .There are so many heart-warming stories in her heart. It took her quite a while to answer this question.

"Overseas parties have maxed out credit cards to raise supplies"

"Hundreds of calls, contact the manufacturer one by one, verify one by one"

"Small and medium-sized enterprises with difficulties in running even donated a lot of materials"

"Medical device manufacturers are recruiting during Spring Festival, running to supply masks and protective clothing sooner"

...Gathering is a fire, scattered with gypsophila, every small spark gathered together can illuminate the entire sky in the dark.

"Unite as one"

At the same time, in order to make their job more transparent and efficient, they set up a public account "Post-90s in Action" to record the progress and current status. Especially in the face of the recent shortage of supplies, they have begun to "sweep around the world" and race against time to purchase supllies.

Q:Now facing various challenges, what makes you persevere?

When talking about the gains from this experience, Qiao Keqing did not hesitate to say “friends of this team”.

Although they didn't know each other before 2020, they are united at the moment. They made an action chart with orderly distribution of labor and strong collaboration. Some of them are responsible for the docking of domestic materials, some are responsible for the procurement of foreign materials, some are responsible for domestic material distribution, and some are responsible for foreign material logistics.

Someone in our team are not so professional, they managed to get through the whole process. I think this is a very powerful and magical thing, but this is not my contribution alone, it is joint effort of everyone."。

Q:What is your biggest feeling during anti-epidemic volunteer life?

Since the outbreak of the "epidemic", Qiao Keqing has witnessed how the Chinese people have united in front of disasters. At this moment, what she wants to thank most is the medical staff who fight the virus day and night. Some of them could not get out until the epidemic was over; some were so tired that they accidentally fell asleep, and apologized for not having time to reply messages.

"It is possible to overcome with them! They are walls protecting us, and we can't let the wall fall."

Among us, there are many "Luojiq people" like Qiao Keqing, They are scattered all over the world like bunches of shimmering lights, gathered from various places at home and abroad, gathered in Wuhan, and focused on "Luojia".

They will never refuse to shine because of the faint light, because they know that these gleams will always be received by people in the dark.
