Recently, Wuhan University received the notice from the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee under the State Council that its integrated reform trial project of MBA postgraduate education has passed the acceptance inspection, and the reform achievements will be listed in A Compilation of Achievements Obtained through National Integrated Reform Trial Projects of Postgraduate Education regarding Professional Degrees.

To implement the Medium and Long-term National Educational Reform and Development Plan (2010-2020), the Ministry of Education decided to carry out integrated reform trials of postgraduate education regarding professional degrees in some universities and colleges since 2010, so as to further advance the reform and development of postgraduate education, meet demands of the economic and social development for high quality professional talents, and establish and perfect the postgraduate education system for professional degrees with Chinese characteristics step by step.

Those approved projects launched in different universities and colleges underwent selection first in those relevant institutions and then on-site defenses as well as appraisals held by the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee under the State Council. The appraisal lasted 5 months, as over 200 universities and colleges throughout the country took on-site defenses. As for the MBA program, there were about 100-odd universities applying for reform projects and taking defenses. In November 2010, after the review of the specialist panel, the MBA program of Wuhan University was approved to carry out the integrated reform trial for postgraduate education, and thus the university became one of the 18 pilot universities selected to conduct the integrated reform.

In the first half of this year, under the authorization of the Office of the Academic Degrees Committee under the State Council, the National MBA Education Supervisory Committee organized 18 specialists to inspect those integrated reform trial projects of MBA postgraduate education carried out in the 18 selected universities. The MBA program in Wuhan University has successfully passed the final acceptance check due to its constant improvement, innovation, and learning from practices in the past three years.

In the past three years, focusing on the guideline of “highlighting the features, positioning precisely, pursuing excellency and optimizing the management”, the integrated reform trial project of MBA postgraduate education in Wuhan University has achieved good results. The following are the three major achievements: perfecting the MBA course system to highlight and enhance quality education; developing the admission and assessment system for candidates by adopting “two separate financing systems” for different students; and adopting practice-oriented approach for thesis assessment to promote the quality level of MBA theses.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the MBA program in Wuhan University. We will make unremitting efforts and continuous progress as in the past two decades so as to accomplish more in the future. (Administrative Office of the Professional Degrees Education)
