Volunteering as Money Management Assistant and Offering Community Service
Date:2012-04-13

For inheriting and carrying forward the spirit of Lei Feng, Graduate Student Union of Economics and Management School has organized a series of learn-from-Lei Feng activities, among which the first phase of Money Management Assistant Entering the Community Activity was successfully held in Chagang Community in the afternoon of March 29, 2012. In the afternoon of April 12, despite the bad weather, the second phase of Money Management Assistant Entering the Community Activity was still held as scheduled. At 3 pm, graduate volunteers set out from the Economics and Management School. Although these volunteers got so wet by the heavy rain when arriving at Chagang Community Committee, they were still enthusiastic about serving the residents with their professional knowledge.

During the activity, graduate volunteers visited the residents, explained money management knowledge to seniors, and proposed practical suggestions for seniors to select the appropriate money management approach. For the majority of retired seniors, the main source of their income is pension. The stable monthly income and high life quality trigger their strong demand for money management. However, they have extremely low risk tolerance, and are accustomed to depositing money into the bank. One elderly investor pointed out that the reason why many seniors rush to buy treasury bonds is their lack of money management knowledge. As a matter of fact, many products are available for satisfying seniors’ money management demand. Therefore, volunteers advised seniors to learn about different types of financial products, which is conducive to their money management practice. Volunteers and residents talked face to face and whole-heartedly, and brought warmness to the hearts of residents in spite of the heavy rain.

Students all agree that learn-from-Lei Feng activities have not only enhanced their social responsibility, but also opened up a new channel for applying their knowledge to the practice. Graduates shall not only cherish the opportunity to learn from the books, but also accumulate experience from social practice and actively participate in social services, improving themselves, training themselves and perfecting themselves!
