Department of Economics Faculty Participating in Taiwanese Symposium

Normal07.8 磅02falsefalsefalseEN-USZH-CNX-NONEFrom August 28 to 29, five teachers of our school’s Department of Economics, GuoXibao, Ye Chusheng, Wang Jinchao, Luo Zhi and Li Xuesong attended the academic conference, “Entrepreneurship, Economic Transformation, and Hayek Thought” held in Feng Chia University, Taichung. Over 40 researchers from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the United States participated in the conference.

During the conference, Professor GuoXibao oversaw the discussion on economic growth, and conducted a report titled “Relation between Mainland China’s Population Transformation and Economic Growth Viewed from Unified Growth Theory: Also on Consequences of Prolonged Single-child Policy in Mainland China”. Participants responded to his report with enthusiastic discussion. Professors Ye Chusheng and Wang Jinchao, and Associate Professors Luo Zhi and Li Xuesong reported their respective essays: “Threshold Effect in Social Capital’s Impact on Household Benefits: A Microscopic Econometric Analysis of Poverty Trap Problem in Rural China”, “Relation between Market and Planning Viewed from Connotation and Fundamental Factors behind China’s Insufficient Domestic Demand: Doubt and Falsification for Hayek’s Market Theory”, “Waiting or Following: Group Strategy of the Company World in Face of Uncertainty in Investment Policies”, and “Individual Social Capital, Group Social Capital, and Self-evaluation Health: An Analysis Based on 2011’s CHARLS Microscopic Data”, with in-depth discussion between participants. The five teachers also provided intellectual commentary on other researchers’ essays.

During the journey, they also exchanged ideas with the faculty of Business School, Feng Chia University, and surveyed the agricultural associations, villagers and farmer households of Taichung region, obtaining rich data and information.
