Date:2020-12-04

The winter is gone and the spring is coming.

Viruses separate you from me, but not knowledge.

Liu Yan, a teacher from the School of Economics and Management at Wuhan University, has launched an online course on organizational Behavior this semester, as required by the Ministry of Education. Due to the special period, considering the small class setting, stability and other issues, Ms. Liu finally chose QQ group as the teaching platform, and adopted QQ group voice real-time communication as the teaching method.

Before the class began, Liu Yan would post the PPT prepared in advance to the group. The PPT contained the main content of the class, as well as a brief explanation of the class recorded by Liu Yan.Before class, students had to preview the corresponding chapters and think about the discussion questions listed on the PPT,so that they can have a better discussion in class.Organizational Behavior is the science of understanding, explaining, and ultimately improving the attitudes and behaviors of individuals and groups within an organization. The seemingly abstract knowledge presented in Teacher Liu Yan's class presented the picture of interest, interaction and collision of thinking. The class ateight o 'clock every Tuesday morning began with the laughter of Liu Yan and her classmates.

Teaching in English is geared to the academic frontier

Teacher Liu Yan's class takes English as the teaching language. Both the explanation of the class content and the interaction between teachers and students are conducted in an all-English form. At first, the students were not used to the way of teaching in English. However, under the encouragement of teachers and the guidance of some students, students' participation in class has become more and more high, and their speeches have become more and more active. When confronted with some interesting and controversial questions, the class is full of ideas.

The all-English classes also encouraged students to focus on authoritative textbooks and the academic frontier.Ms.Liu yan's class focused on two textbooks, "Organizational Behavior" and "Organizational Behavior-Improving Performance and Commitment in the Workplace", supplemented by the latest international academic achievements. The empirical data and opinions in English make students consciously retrieve relevant papers.

Multiple interactive modes make online classes full of fun

In order to make the online classroom more efficient, Liu Yan taught organizational behavior in a variety of ways.

On the one hand, online groupswere used in class. Students with 3-4 people as a unit, under the teacher's arrangement in an orderly way to complete the weekly discussion tasks. In this way, students can get familiar with each other online, not only can break the barrier between the screen quickly, review the knowledge learned, but also can exchange ideas. This deepens students' understanding of knowledge points and improves the efficiency of the whole course.

On the other hand, the class carries out English debates and expands on some knowledge points in the textbook. Before class, the students participating in the debate had made sufficient preparations in the group, so that the debate in class will attack and defense fierce, constantly rubbing out sparks of ideas. Although there was a screen, the "audience" was attentive and asked questions about the debaters' ideas after the debate, which made the whole teaching process full of fun.

Let's have a look at the students' comments

Classmate H: According to senior, Ms. Liu yan is the most responsible teacher she has met since she was in university, so she chose the teacher's course without hesitation. The teacher gave us a very careful feedback every time we did our homework. The class was taught in English, which was not very comfortable at first, but the teacher tried her best to motivate us to participate in the class. There were debates in the last two weeks, which can mobilize students' class participation and promote after-class thinking and discussion.

Classmate W: The teacher was very kind and guided us to think. The students actively discussed with each other, and I felt I gained a lot. Each time, there will be group work to help us explore more deeply what we have learned in class. Problem-oriented group discussion is an effective supplement to classroom knowledge. In this class, the deepest feeling is the enthusiasm of the teacher. Enthusiasm is contagious and motivates us.What we've learned is interesting, and it's building on what we've learned.

Classmate Y: The teacher was very attentive and guided us to think through various forms, and also gave some examples in life to help us understand the knowledge points. Interactive English teaching has given me a new experience in class.I have gained a lot! Another biggest feeling is that we use two textbooks. There were many points of paper and other theories in the course of the lecture. It's interesting and beneficial.

Classmate L: The atmosphere of interactive teaching in class is very good.Teaching in English is fruitful. The PPT of the teacher is simple and abstractly presented, with tables and pictures. It is very intuitive to present, and one or two keywords can be extended and supplemented by professional knowledge. The teacher's professional is very good and stimulates their own professional knowledge to improve the English level.

In the spring, the students were isolated at home. Perhaps missed the spring, but did not live up to the knowledge.A wire connected you and me,We learned and made progress together. In Liu Yan's online class, the enthusiasm for knowledge made this different spring full of vitality again.( Editor: Lai Xiaowei,Luo Yu)
